A little dollop of character.
The project
Creativity with splattitude.
Dollop Creative wanted a short animation for the top of their homepage, designed to autoplay on each visit. The brief called for a plasticine look, a little character and a well-timed splat, all leading into their logo and the line “creativity with splattitude”.
We created the animation in Maya, using 3D to capture the soft shapes and tactile surface of plasticine. Dollop’s mint green and purple keep it firmly in their brand, while a wide composition and flat background allow the animation to sit comfortably alongside the rest of the homepage.

A small story in a few seconds.
A ball rolls into view, stops and looks at the camera. Then it glances up and realises what’s coming. The storyboards plan that shift from curiosity to worry before the hand lands, the shape rises again and the Dollop logo appears. It’s a simple sequence, with the expression and timing doing much of the work.

A plasticine feel, made in 3D.
The brief asked for the charm of plasticine animation, including small details in the character’s eyes and blinks. We used soft forms, surface texture and squash and stretch to bring that feeling into the 3D animation. The mint-green character stays clear against the purple background as it changes shape, with the eyes carrying its personality through each reaction.
